jeebus July 28th, 2010 01:27 PM

I like the idea of them. I dunno if I'd like them in reality.

it's bad just going on beer runs with it to the store.

0-45 takes like 30 seconds and 2 miles.

Gunslinger July 28th, 2010 01:39 PM

I don't see that it's been re-geared for the 32's.

they are a pretty silly car.

However, the fact that they weigh next to nothing and have almost no power make them almost indestructible.

yeah, he hasn't had any problems with his, he put a new top and apparently some company makes a full diamond plate interior panel kit for it because he did that too, and a huge set of steel bumpers with a winch on the front...bumpers had a noticeable impact on acceleration :rofl

LMAO. yep, hang a set of 250 pound bumpers on a beer can, it's bound to make an impact.

Gunslinger July 28th, 2010 02:14 PM

Somebody used to make a Buick v-6 swap kit too.

jeebus July 28th, 2010 02:30 PM

yeah, they are definitely a niche vehicle. I'd prolly loathe it on the road, but off the road it would be funz. However, for the money, you can get a much nicer REAL car.

you would positively loathe it on the road. I don't think I could tolerate driving one without swapping in some other engine. Shit, you should be able to find a Nissan KA24 with trans and t-case from a hardbody and swap that in and it would be more than plenty. From what I hear the front suspension doesn't really like heavy stuff, a buddy of mine put a Chevy 4.3L in one and though it would spin the 33's with ease, it wallowed like a pig and was positively miserable to drive. Even he said if he had it to do over again he would have just gone with a more powerful 4 cylinder.

Even with some power the thing is RIDICULOUSLY small and just not that well put together. The guy with the 4.3L had swapped in bucket seats from some Ford and they touched in the middle. The road noise is abhorrent.

Basically if you just want the lightest, shortest wheelbase SUV you can get your hands on and you don't care about ANY other characteristic that most people consider desirable in a vehicle...that's when you get a Samurai.

Devad July 28th, 2010 02:56 PM

In stock form they will run forever and are quite capable off-road, believe it or not, but they are loud, stinky and rattle like a spray can. And once you start modding them they become money pits that will nickel and dime you to death. Their thirst for parts/mods will never be quenched.

If I had the money and time I'd put a VW 1.9TD engine in it and Land Cruiser axles under it.

I have a love/hate relationship with mine. I'll never sell it, but I might push it off a cliff one day. :dunno

LMAO.

the thing that puts a jeep's credibility in question is a redneck behind the wheel.

NOT the part about him doing a wheelie and twisting the driveline into a pretzel.

LOLOLOL
